Revati Gangal

Revati Gangal paints life as seen in Bollywood films, in a subtle mixture of restraint and exuberance. Her characters are held in a meditative calm, but their inner lives, thoughts and aspirations immerse them in an abundance of colourful and joyful patterns that are midway between traditional textiles and psychedelic illustrations from the hippy years of love and peace. What emotions and feelings lie hidden under our skin? When people meet one another, love each other and then continue their lives together, are they always in harmony? Revati Gangal’s paintings are all impregnated with these questions. Revati Gangal was born in Mumbai, India in 1981. Following her studies at the Beaux-Arts and becoming a Master in painting, specialising in portraits, amassing several prizes and distinctions, along with having numerous exhibitions, she followed her young husband to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, where she continues her work. Using acrylic on canvas or on paper, she expresses her life and memories, as well as her future dreams and expectations. Her paintings had a far more classical representation at the start, but are now turning increasingly towards a naïve expression that is striving for a universal symbolism.
